Evidently, Olympian Kendrick Farris isn't the only Shreveport weightlifter garnering attention these days. LSU Shreveport freshman Josh Pineda, a Vineland, New Jersey native, took titles at the 2016 USA Weightlifting National Junior Championships, recently held in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. Pineda won in the 56 kg. (123 lb.) category. The event featured the top weightlifting athletes in the nation aged 20 and under.

Pineda took home three gold medals: the snatch competition with a lift of 84 kg. (185 lb.), the clean and jerk competition with a lift of 110 kg. (242 lb.), and the combined total, finishing ahead of 23 other competitors in his category.
