The LSU Shreveport family will be taking part in several holiday activities, beginning with the lighting of the Christmas tree in the Dr. Lacy and Edie Williams Circle of Excellence Plaza at dusk on Wednesday, November 30.

Each year since the plaza was built in 2008, LSUS has lit a Christmas tree during the holiday season. The LSUS community cordially invites the Shreveport-Bossier community to join in the annual LSUS Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. Hot chocolate, apple cider, coffee and cookies will be available to enjoy during the ceremony. A local high school chorus will perform traditional Christmas carols. LSUS mascot Pete the Pilot will be in attendance and available for photos. The tree lighting ceremony is free.

LSUS students, faculty, staff and alumni will also be participating in LSUS Hugs4Kids. This annual program, originated in 2003 by the LSUS Alumni Association, collects toys for donation to The Children’s Hospital of LSU Health Shreveport. Faculty and staff will collect toys at the annual Faculty-Staff Holiday Luncheon, while students will collect toys on campus. Pete the Pilot and members of the LSUS basketball teams will help distribute toys to the children.

Community friends are invited to participate in Hugs4Kids by bringing new, unwrapped toys to the tree lighting ceremony November 30. For more information, contact Kimberly Thornton at 318.797.5393 or Kimberly.thornton@lsus.edu.
