Students from the LSU Shreveport Rotaract Club, LEAD Corps, and Accounting Club will present a $10,000.00 check to the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission on Friday, April 13 at 11:15 a.m. in the Circle of Excellence Plaza on the LSUS Campus. The gift represents the proceeds from the 5th Annual Black Tie… Or Not… Benefit Ball held at Sam’s Town Casino Ballroom on March 10, 2012. With this presentation, the students will reach $50,000.00 in donations to the Rescue Mission from the BTON Ball since its inception in 2008. 

The BTON Ball is a student organized, managed and hosted community service and social venture. The term “edu-fundraiser” was coined to describe the project and its the two main functions: to educate the students in event planning, philanthropy and social skills, while also performing community service.

Attendees included LSUS students, the Bossier Parish Community College Jazz Ensemble and numerous supporters from throughout the region. Special guests at this year’s Ball included several Air Force officers and personnel and their spouses from Barksdale Air Force Base, including 2nd Bomb Wing Commander, Colonel Tim Fay. 

Colonel Fay joined LSUS senior Michelle Allen on stage as they were crowned Bubba and Belle of the 2012 BTON Ball.
