SULPHUR, La. (AP) — Former LSU linebacker Tahj Jones is recovering from surgery and remains in serious condition after being shot Friday night by another former LSU football player.

Sulphur Police Chief Lewis Coats says Jones, a Sulphur native, was shot Friday night at an apartment complex there by 36-year-old Brandon Winey.

Coats says the 24-year-old Jones went to the apartment complex to visit a woman and that Winey arrived shortly later to visit the same woman.

Police say Winey shot Jones in the abdomen during a fight.

The woman drove Jones to West Calcasieu Cameron Hospital. He was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria for surgery Saturday morning.

Winey is charged with attempted murder and jailed in Sulphur on $1 million bond after his arrest at a house in Lake Charles.
