LSU Beats Kent State 45-13

Les Miles and the LSU Tigers defeated Kent State 45-13 inside Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge Saturday night. LSU is now 3-0 for the season and will begin Southeastern Conference play this Saturday, Sept. 21 against Auburn at 6:45 PM.

LSU quarterback Zach Mettenberger set a school record with three more touchdown passes making nine TD’s in the first three games.

In the first quarter Jeremy Hill raced 58 yards up the middle for the first touchdown of the game against Kent State and Colby Delahoussaye added the extra point putting LSU in the lead 7-0.

Zach Mettenberger passed to Jarvis Landry for a 21-yard TD and the Tigers and lead Kent State 14-0 after Colby Delahoussaye nailed the point after with 8:16 left in the 1st quarter.

Jeremy Hill carried the ball up the middle for a 12-yard score making the score 21-0 with 2:36 left in the 1st quarter.

Kent State scored on a 2-yard touchdown run by QB Colin Reardon and LSU remained in the lead 21-7 in the 2nd quarter. LSU Tigers’ Colby Delahoussaye nailed a 25-yard field goal, keeping LSU in front of Kent State 24-7 with 10:03 left in the 2nd quarter. Delahoussaye is now 4-for-4 on field goals this season.

With 4:14 remaining in the 2nd quarter, Zach Mettenberger fires to Jarvis Landry for a 31-yard TD catch and LSU leads Kent State 31-7.

The 2nd half got underway as James Hairston’s kickoff is taken in the endzone for a touchback. Kent State starts at their 25 and added a 36-yard field goal. LSU leads 31-13 with 3:16 left in the 3rd quarter.

Zach Mettenberger completes a pass to Odell Beckham Jr. for a 5-yard touchdown and LSU leads Kent State 38-13 with 14:55 in the 4th quarter after Colby Delahoussaye booted the extra point.

LSU Tigers’ Terrence Magee ran up the middle for a 12-yard touchdown, Colby Delahoussaye knocked in the point making the final score of the game 45-13 LSU.

Led by quarterback Zach Mettenberger’s 264 yards passing and 100-yard rushers Jeremy Hill and Terrence Magee, LSU totaled 571 yards of total offense to move the ball at will against Kent State (1-2). The Tigers’ 10.4 yards per play was second best in school history.

Jeremy Hill ran 11 times for 119 yards and touchdown runs of 58 and 12 yards. All nine of Magee’s carries came in the second half, as he rolled for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Alfred Blue added 56 rushing yards, also all in the second half. Receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry continued to find holes in the secondary. Beckham Jr. had five catches for 76 yards with a 5-yard touchdown grab, while Landry had four catches for 66 yards and two scores.

Defensively, Ego Ferguson led LSU with a career-high eight tackles and a sack. Safety Micah Eugene also had a career-best with six tackles.
