It almost seems like a "you've made it" moment in American politics to be parodied on Saturday Night Live.

The comedy sketch show is a staple of American pop culture, and has been for nearly half a century. Presidents, Presidential candidates, foreign leaders, and more have all had high-level caricatures featured regularly on the show. Will Ferrell's George W. Bush, Tina Fey's Sarah Palin, Phil Hartman's Bill Clinton, Darrell Hammond's Dick Cheney, and plenty of others have become pieces of American's political fabric.

Now we get to sit back and see if the new portrayal of Louisiana's US Senator John Kennedy will have a long-term shelf life.

Kennedy was parodied as part of a Brett Kavanaugh sketch to cold-open this past weekend's Saturday Night Live. He was portrayed by SNL featured player Kyle Mooney, who's in his 5th season on the show.

If Kennedy continues to gain national attention with phrases like "intergalactic freakshow" in Senate committee hearings, this character could have legs with SNL.
