Residents get a break from sales taxes on August 1 and 2nd.

The 2014 Louisiana Sales Tax Holiday exempts the first $2,500 of the purchase price of each eligible item for non-business use.

The exemption applies only to the 4 percent state sales tax. Local sales taxes will still apply.

The exemption does not apply to vehicles, meals prepared for consumption on premises or to-go; and taxable services including hotel occupancy, printing services and admission to athletic or amusement facilities.
