State health officials have confirmed the state’s fourth West Nile virus death this year.  It happened in Ouachita Parish and was the second death in that parish this year.

The state Department of Health and Hospitals has also confirmed four new cases of West Nile virus and, for the first time this year, two of those cases were here in Caddo and Bossier Parishes.  Both were West Nile fever.  There were also two more cases of the most-serious neuroinvasive disease, one each in Acadia and Rapides Parishes.
