Louisiana ranks in the middle of the pack in the 2014 Guns & Ammo report ranking the best states for gun owners. The article rates California, Connecticut. and New York, as the worst states overall for gun owners, and ranks Arizona, Alaska, and Georgia as the most gun friendly states.

Louisiana, according to Guns & Ammo comes in as the 27th best state for gun owners. Each state was rated in the following categories 1) right to carry, 2) modern sporting rifles (restrictions) 3) NFA (Title II weapons) , 4) Castle doctrine (defense of habitation law, 5) miscellaneous.

Louisiana was praised for it's "right to carry", NFA, and castle-doctrine laws, and flagged for the state's current laws banning concealed carry in bars (or restaurants selling alcohol).
