Louisiana lawmakers have sent out statements in response to the tragic Lafayette movie theater shooting.

  • U.S. Congressman John Fleming of Minden:

“My wife, Cindy, and I were horrified to hear of the senseless shooting in Louisiana. Our prayers are with the victims recovering, and family members of those that died. I do however praise the quick actions taken by the first responders, as well as civilians in the theater, to ensure the tragedy didn’t escalate further. While investigators look into why this incident happened, I ask that you join me in prayer for all those involved.”

  • Attorney and former Congressman Jeff Landry:

"Please join Sharon and me in prayer for the shooting victims at the Grand Theatre in Lafayette. May God comfort them, their families, and our first responders in this difficult time."

  • Lafayette U.S. Congressman Charles Boustany:

“I'm saddened at the terrible loss of life represented in tonight's tragic shooting at a movie theater in my hometown of Lafayette. Bridget and I are praying for the families and friends of the victims at this difficult time. I will work with the Lafayette Police Department, local, state, and federal officials to get to the bottom of what happened tonight.”

  • U.S. Senator David Vitter:

“Wendy, the kids, and I certainly join so many others in our continuing love and prayers for all of those affected by this horrible and senseless violence. As a community, we must serve as a source of strength and support for the victims' families in particular.”

  • Dan Gross, President of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, also reacts to the news:

“We are deeply saddened by yet another mass shooting in America. Two innocent people are dead, several more are injured and hundreds were terrorized all while taking part in one of our country’s most beloved pastimes – a night at the movies.

Investigators have already made it clear that the shooter has a criminal history. As we await further details from the investigation, it will be important to learn whether he legally had any business owning a firearm and, if not, finding out how he got one. As we wait, our hearts, prayers and thoughts go out to everyone impacted by this terrible tragedy.”
