Louisiana Disaster Recovery Centers across Louisiana will be closed this Memorial Day weekend.

The DRCs will be shut down from Saturday, May 28, through Monday, May 30. They'll reopen Tuesday, May 31, at 8 a.m.

Residents can still register for disaster assistance or ask questions by calling the FEMA helpline at 800-621-3362 or 800-462-7585. Lines are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week until further notice. You can also register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or www.fema.gov/disaster/4263. Remember...registration ends Monday, June 13.

FEMA also offers the following information:

  • There is a wide range of free resources available online from FEMA if you’re rebuilding after the severe storms and flooding between March 8 and April 8. Go online to fema.gov/louisiana-disaster-mitigation.
  • Think about taking these recovery steps by the June 13 federal disaster assistance registration deadline. Report any home damage to parish officials, file a claim with your homeowner’s or flood insurance company, speak with your insurance agent before starting cleanup, discard badly damaged items, register with FEMA, complete and return an application for a U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest disaster loan, and arrange a FEMA housing inspection visit to make sure your registration proceeds.
  • If you’re having trouble finding a new home, resources are available to help you identify places that may be suitable for you and your family by calling the FEMA helpline. Moving you and your family out of a temporary residence and into a long-term home or rental property moves recovery forward significantly.
