Religion is an important topic in everyday life and in politics as debates over gay rights, abortion, and educational philosophy.  But a recent Gallup poll shows that the Ark-La-Tex states are among the most religious in the nation.

Of the states in the Ark-La-Tex, Louisiana is the most religious and fourth most religious in the nation, as 53% of respondents to the poll saying they are 'very religious'.  According to the poll, 'very religious' is defined as having religion play an important role in everyday life and attending church every week or every other week.

Arkansas is right behind Louisiana at fifth most religious in the nation, with 52% of respondents saying they are very religious.  Texas is the 11th most religious state, with 47% of respondents saying they are very religious.

The most religious states ahead of Louisiana and Arkansas are Mississippi, Utah, and Alabama.  The least religious states are Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
