July tends to be the month with the highest energy consumption, and summer is the season that most Americans relocate to start a new family or career.

Those are the points behind personal finance website WalletHub's latest analysis, an in-depth look at 2015's Most & Least Energy-Expensive States.

WalletHub compared the average monthly energy bills in each of the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia using eight key metrics, including consumption rates and prices of four different energy types -- electricity, natural gas, motor fuel and home heating oil.

Here are some of Louisiana's results on Energy Consumption & Costs (1=Best, 25=Average):

4th -- Price of electricity
51st -- Electricity consumption per total housing units
28th -- Price of natural gas
10th -- Natural gas consumption per total housing units
7th -- Price of fuel
30th -- Fuel consumption per driver

The three least expensive places for energy are D.C., Colorado and Washington state. The most expensive are Connecticut, Wyoming and Massachusetts.
