The Home Depot Foundation is "building" a solid relationship with Volunteers of America North Louisiana. Through its Community Impact Grants Program, the foundation has awarded the local VOA $5,000. The donation will be used to purchase new, energy-efficient windows for the Veterans Transitional Living Program. VOA officials say with the money saved in utilities, the organization will be able to invest more into programs and clients. The veterans program serves up to 56 veterans for up to 24 months, providing the basics -- food and shelter -- along with its expertise in mental health treatment. It also helps connect veterans with educational opportunities, job placement and permanent housing.
