The body of Staff Sgt Michael Garcia of Bossier City is back in the US, but family members can not finalize plans for his funeral until his remains are back home. He was honored at Dover Air Force Base where the remains arrived on Wednesday. Garcia died on the 4th of July in Logar province, Afghanistan. He was wounded when insurgents attacked his unit. The 27 year old Garcia was assigned to the 63rd Ordinance Battalion based at Fort Polk, La. Family members say Garcia mailed them a letter outlining his wishes if he did not make it home and they will honor his wishes. There will be a funeral Mass at St. John Berchman Cathedral, but we don't have the date and time yet.

We pay tribute to this American hero.

May the love of those who knew you and the love of those you protected be with you always!
