The Missouri Tigers, 2011 AdvoCare V100™ Independence Bowl champions, received their brand new trophies last week.

The crystal trophies, produced by Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry, were shipped via UPS from Shreveport to Columbia, Mo. on May 7 and arrived on campus two days later.

Truman the Tiger, Missouri’s mascot, accidentally bumped into the championship trophy hours before the 2011 I-Bowl at the pre-game Fan Fest while posing for a picture, knocking it to the ground and shattering it. Lee Michaels Fine Jewelry came to the rescue on short notice and delivered a temporary trophy prior to the game. Missouri however recovered and defeated North Carolina 41-24, but had to hoist a temporary trophy in celebration. Then, following the game Offensive MVP James Franklin’s trophy was knocked over near the locker room and shattered. Yes, two trophies broken in one day, some stories just cannot be made up.

“We replaced both trophies free of charge,” said Greg Johnson, Lee Michaels Sr. Vice President & General Manager. “Truman is now off the hook, but he needs to be careful in the future,” said Johnson.
