A homeschool co-op group in Shreveport-Bossier that's just achieved non-profit status has done something unlike anything many of us have ever seen before.

Kids and parents with CoLab of SBC have created their original adaptation of the H.G. Wells short story 'The Star," and they'll be performing it for the public to enjoy in mid-June.

Children from pre-school to middle school-age have participated in writing the play, creating scenery and coming up with costume ideas for this production.

"CoLab started as a secular, project-based homeschool co-op. We set out to create a theater production, working through all the steps that go into taking a story to a stage -- from playwriting, to event planning, to technical theater," said CoLab Secretary Jaime Wessler. "We are so excited to introduce this play that we have created!"

You can check it out Friday, June 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the East Bank Theater in Bossier City. That's located at 630 Barksdale Boulevard, inside the Bossier Arts Council building. Refreshments will be available, and there will be a Q&A after the show.

Oh, and did I mention....my daughter Emma will be playing the part of a scientist named June in this production. So there's some extra incentive for you to come see it!
