Gladys Knight is one of the country's most famous R&B singers. She stopped in Shreveport for two free performances at a local church.

It was at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Carroll Street at Southfield.

Knight led the Choir of the Saints Unified Voices. The choir performed two shows and more than 1,000 people attended each show.

Seating was on a first-come, first-served basis, and the place was packed.

Knight told the crowd that this is just something she feels called to do: traveling the country singing in churches between her paid gigs.
