The Shreveport Fire Department was dispatched at 10:21 am this morning to the Live Oak Retirement Community at 600 E. Flournoy Lucas Road for a report of a collapsed crane.  When fire crews arrived on scene, they found a 110 foot crane toppled over and resting upon the roof of one of the buildings.

Immediately, firefighters began evacuating residents of Live Oak’s east and west wings to safer areas within the complex.  Firefighters called in authorities to cut-off and cap the natural gas lines in the area to avoid further injuries to the public.

One Live Oak employee was injured after sustaining minor injuries from falling ceiling tiles.  The employee was treated on-scene and transported to Willis-Knighton Pierremont. Shreveport firefighters will remain on-scene until machine operators can position the collapsed crane in an upright position.

Live Oak Retirement Community’s lobby sustained structural and water damage.
