Gov. Jindal: Summer Testing Scores Won’t Be Delayed

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration says there shouldn't be delays in scoring standardized tests taken by some public school fourth-graders and eighth-graders this summer.

Those retests for students who previously failed determine if the students advance to the next grade.

Jindal suspended the education department's testing contract to undermine Louisiana's use of the Common Core education standards and stop the purchase of testing material tied to the standards.

Superintendent of Education John White sent a memo to local superintendents Wednesday telling them the contract suspension means the summer retests can't be scored on time.

Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols said Thursday she notified the testing contractor the administration will pay for test scoring. White sent a follow-up memo to superintendents telling them it appeared summer test results won't be significantly delayed.
