A man convicted of second-degree murder by a Caddo Parish jury earlier this month has been handed his sentence. James Edward Mason, Jr., has been sentenced to life in prison at hard labor, without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence. He was sentenced for his part in the November 2007 drive-by shooting death of Latorisha Wiley. Prior to issuing the sentence, Judge Mike Pittman denied defense motions asking for a new trial and for a delay in sentencing pending appeal. Mason's co-defendant in the case, Charles Derome Evans, is scheduled for jury trial in Caddo District Court on October 10th.
