The Associated Press reports another police officer has been killed, this time in Illinois.

Police in Fox Lake, which is 55 miles north of Chicago, say the officer radioed dispatchers to tell them he was pursuing people described as suspicious. The officer was found with a gunshot wound and later died. He'd been stripped of his gun and other equipment.

Multiple agencies, aided by K-9s and helicopters, are searching for three men, two white and one black. The search prompted the lockdown of a nearby high school, which is keeping children and staff away from windows and out of sight.
