Hundreds of local youngsters showed up with their parents to take part in Mayor Ollie Tyler's backpack giveaway at the Shreveport Convention Center.
Each of the new backpacks was loaded with school supplies the children will need as they head back to class next week.
The supplies were donated by various groups and individuals throughout our community.

Several local officials joined the Mayor to pass out the supplies. Caddo District Attorney James Stewart, Caddo Superintendent Dr. Lamar Goree, City Council Chairman Willie Bradford and others encouraged the youngsters to do good in school while passing out the supplies.

This event was sponsored by the Northwest Louisiana Community Development Foundation and Praise Temple.com. The Biedenharn Foundation also donated $10,000 to help pay for the backpacks and supplies. More than 3,000 backpacks were handed out to children in need.
