Bones found on a sandbar in the Red River are human.

Caddo Parish Coroner Todd Thoma says an intact female adult skeleton, including the skull, have been located.  But Dr. Thoma says it's too early to provide further information.  He says the remains will be taken to Baton Rouge for further examination by the LSU "FACES" team.  He says, among other things, the team can do a facial reconstruction, look for evidence of trauma, and pull DNA.

The Caddo Sheriff's Office was notified last Friday by Wildlife and Fisheries agents that a bone had been found on the sandbar about a mile north of Cash Point Landing.  The Caddo Sheriff's Marine Unit retrieved that bone Saturday.  Deputies went back to the sandbar yesterday (Wed) and located several more bones. Today, Caddo deputies, the Caddo Coroner's Office, and representatives from the FACES lab returned to the sandbar and found even more bones, including the skull.
