It's the holiday season, the time when people most feel the spirit of giving. But it might surprise you to know that the Bayou State ranks pretty low on the charitability list.

A new analysis by WalletHub shows Louisiana is the 2nd Least Charitable State. The personal finance website analyzed eight key metrics, such as volunteer rate, the percentage of taxpayers who donated to charity, and growth in charitable giving, to come up with its rankings.

Here were some of the stats on Generosity in Louisiana, with 1 being biggest and 25 being average:

50th - Volunteer rate
19th - Percentage of donated income
34th - Percentage of population who claim to have donated time
47th - People who donated money to charity
20th - Growth in charitable giving (2012 vs. 2006)
50th - Number of volunteering hours per capita
45th - Number of charities per capita

The five most generous states on the list were Utah, Maryland, Idaho, Oregon and South Dakota. Rhode Island ranked just below us, at number 50.
