The Department of Health and Hospital has confirmed another ten cases of West Nile Virus in the past week but no additional deaths.  Of these new cases, four were the most serious neuroinvasive disease with one each in East Baton Rouge, Lafayette, Terrebonne, and Tangipahoa parishes.  There were five new West Nile Fever cases, with one each reported in Beauregard, Bossier, East Baton Rouge, Iberia, and Pointe Coupee parishes.  And there was one new asymptomatic case reported in Vernon parish.  So far this year, there have been 321 West Nile cases and 12 deaths from the disease.  that makes 2012 the worst year for West Nile in a decade.  In 2002, there were 328 cases and 24 deaths.
