[Update] Haughton High School football coach Rodney Guin has shown signs of improvement after suffering a heart attack early Saturday morning.

Sources close to the family say he opened his eyes for a brief moment on Saturday night. Doctors plan to move him to Dallas Monday morning.

The initial plan is to perform a heart transplant, but doctors are reportedly looking at other medical options.

Guin's daughter Maggie said in a post on Facebook that her father is "still not out of the woods but ya’ll the Lord is covering him." Maggie tweeted:

[Original Story] Haughton High School football coach Rodney Guin has suffered a massive heart attack.

Doctors are trying to stabilize Guin so he can be transported to Dallas for a heart transplant. The Shreveport Times reports Guin suffered the attack early Saturday morning at his home.

The 53-year old is now out of surgery and awaiting an emergency transport. He is listed in critical condition.

Coach Guin has been at Haughton High School for 27 years, 15 as head coach.  He is a graduate of Grawood Academy and Baptist Christian College.  He is married to the former Tracy Callens who is the HHS registrar. They have two daughters, Mallory and Maggie.

Dozens of area residents have posted prayer messages on Coach Guin's Facebook page.
