Haughton coach Rodney Guin is now breathing on his own and making great improvement.

Guin's daughter Mallory has been keeping a daily journal about his recovery.
"This day started out like many of the others. Mom usually gets up pretty early and goes to spend some time with dad by herself. Maggie and I slept in a bit and finally decided to get up and get ready to go see Dad for the morning," she writes.
Coach Guin has been removed from the ventilator at Baylor Med Center in Dallas, and things have only improved from there. Writes Mallory:
At around 2:15 my phone rang and it was my mom.  I was immediately awake and prepared for some type of news:  good, bad, ugly? When I answered she was crying and laughing at the same time and said the best words I've heard in 13 days... they were "Mallory, if you want to see your dad awake you need to hurry!  He knows us!  He's awake!!"
When I walked in the room and he focused on me I uttered the words "Hey Dad!" In that moment when I realized he "got it", he started crying...tears of fear or joy or just pure emotion, I don't know.  But I did realize, he knew us.  He was there and he could hear us and see us and knew we needed to see him.  God knows what we need and when we need it.
He's still sick...but today God showed us that he would be better, and soon.WE LOVE YOU ALL! Mal, Mag, and Tracy

Mallory Guin will join us on KEEL at 8:20 a.m. Friday morning to give us an update on the coach's condition.
