A nice gift for the Bossier City Police Department...from the nation's largest retailer. The department has received a $2,000 grant from Wal-Mart that will be used to fund operations for its K-9 Unit. The Wal-Mart Foundation gave the award through its Local Community Contribution Program. The money will help cover expenses for things like equipment, food and medical care for the department's six K-9s. The K-9 Unit provides back-up support and other assistance to the Uniformed Patrol Division when responding to calls. It's also a valuable tool in detecting illegal narcotics -- and can lend search skills to the police department's other specialized units.
