MARRERO, La. (AP) — The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office says a 14-year-old boy reportedly punched his grandfather, who died of injuries from his head hitting the ground.

Col. John Fortunato says investigators have not filed any charges against the boy, who was not identified because he is a juvenile.

Fortunato says in a news release that witnesses told investigators they had begun arguing inside an apartment complex and continued on the street. The witnesses said the boy hit his grandfather only once, after the 52-year-old began swinging at him.

Normand says an autopsy will determine the cause of death, and the district attorney’s office will be consulted about whether to file charges.
