Governor Bobby Jindal released his proposal of the $24.7 billion 2013-14 Louisiana state budget including hundreds of millions of dollars of patchwork funding. The proposal also assumes hefty savings from the privatization of LSU hospitals to make the numbers balance.

To maintain college funding, the governor's recommendation relies on $424 million in one-time sources of money and tuition increases to keep the state's centers of higher education properly funded.

The governor's proposal also assumes $781 million in savings from privatizing at least six of the university-run public hospitals across Louisiana. However, those deals have not been finalized yet.

This proposal features minimal cuts to the health department and will make no change to public school spending rates.
