Governor Bobby Jindal has outlined his top priorities during his opening of Louisiana's 2014 legislative session, which is now underway in Baton Rouge.

He says because of the growing industrial expansion in the Bayou State, he's proposing to increase higher education funding by over $140-million in next year's budget to provide job skills training for high school and college students.

Jindal also says his administration will aggressively push legislation that would crack down on the horrific crime of human trafficking. And he'll be working with lawmakers to make sure our state has a predictable, fair legal environment.

The governor was met with criticism by the Louisiana Democratic Party. Party Chairwoman Karen Carter-Peterson says the state would be able to produce more graduates, if Jindal had not cut funding for education in recent years.

One initiative Democrats will be focused on is a bill that would require equal compensation regardless of gender, if a man and a woman are both performing the same task.

The legislative session wraps up no later than 6 p.m. Monday, June 2nd.
