CHRISTUS Health Shreveport-Bossier and the Northwest Louisiana American Heart Association are sponsoring the 2014 Go Red Luncheon, set for Thursday, February 6th at Horseshoe Casino. The luncheon is a part of the "Go Red For Women" movement, an initiative sponsored by AHA.

According to cardiologist Jon Davis, M.D., CHRISTUS Cardiology Group, awareness of heart disease is key. “Women don’t always have the same symptoms as men when it comes to heart issues,” he says. “Being aware of the risk factors and the symptoms is key to saving more women’s lives.”

The Go Red luncheon will feature a “Know Your Numbers” Health Fair at the Horseshoe Casino Riverdome from 10-11:30 a.m. In addition to health stations, several physicians will speak and answer questions on heart health-related topics.

The Health Fair will feature the following stations:

HEALTH SCREEN CHECK IN: Welcome/ Form Pickup

KNOW YOUR NUMBERS: Height, Weight, Body Mass Index (BMI)

WAIST MEASURE - which serves as a good indicator for future heart disease

CHOLESTEROL CHECK via finger stick

BLOOD PRESSURE check

CONSULTATION with Dr. Susan Kemp, Chief of Medicine at CHRISTUS, CHRISTUS Cardiology physicians and their Physician Assistants. The providers will review a participant’s screening outcomes, answer any questions, make recommendations on next steps for the participant, and make follow-up appointments if necessary, or connect them with PhysicianFinder to help them choose a primary care provider.

Luncheon attendees may visit all or some of the stations. Seating begins for the luncheon immediately following the health fair.

Keynote speaker for the luncheon is journalist and TV news personality Mark McEwen. Formerly an anchor for “CBS This Morning” and weather and entertainment reporter for “The Early Show,” Mark suffered a stroke in 2005 and has written a book about that experience and his recovery.
