The town of Minden held its Fasching Karneval and Parade over the weekend.

My daughter and I had the chance to experience downtown Minden Saturday, and we had a very enjoyable time. The carnival was small -- about six rides, a couple of food booths and one game. But it was the perfect size for us.

She called all the shots, of course, and decided the first thing we were going to do was play the balloon-popping game. She won herself a prize, then we moved on to the rides. She rode the cars and the dragon roller coaster by herself, and we rode the ferris wheel and the spinning bears together. Then she went to check out the fun house.

One of the most fun parts of our day was visiting Jelly the Clown, who made the most amazing balloon creations. I watched him make a Ninja Turtle out of balloons that was FANTASTIC! For us, he made a purple kitty and a purple and blue flower.

My daughter got her face air brush painted -- a unicorn, of course! After all that activity, we were pretty hungry. But we skipped carnival fare in favor of Habacu's, the Mexican restaurant in downtown Minden. It was great!

After that, we headed down to City Art Works, which had tables set up for families to make their own Mardi Gras masks. This was the most fun! I made a jester mask for my hubby and a kitty for the girl. She made a kitty for me, too. Evidently, my creations were pretty great, because the lady running the activity tried to recruit me to help with teaching the local kids.

We didn't make the parade this time, but it's something we plan to do in the future. One thing I'd like to see next time around...groups dancing in lederhosen to German music.

I always enjoy visiting Minden, and this was one more fun experience to add to the list. Take a look at all our photos!
