This is National Water Safety Month, and to kick off the opening of Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation pool facilities, the Shreveport Fire Department will provide free practical water safety rescue demonstrations for area citizens. Fire Chief Brian Crawford says members of the department's dive team will each lead a class while SPAR's on-site lifeguards give tours of the facilities and discuss pool policies. The training sessions are designed to teach non-swimmers basic tips for water survival, and refresh water skills of seasoned swimmers. Open House activities kick off tomorrow afternoon between 1 and 3 at Airport Park on Kennedy Drive. Additional water safety classes will be held in the coming weeks.
