The Shreveport Police Department is offering free crime prevention training to retailers across the city. In light of some increases last month in reported shoplifting offenses as well as other thefts from businesses, the department’s Community Oriented Policing Bureau is reminding merchants of a free service they provide aimed at reducing those types of crimes. For absolutely no charge at all, community liaison officers will come to your business and brief your employees on the latest shoplifting and theft prevention techniques. In addition, officers will explain what your rights as a merchant or employee are if you do fall prey to a thief. Topics covered include the Louisiana Criminal Code, organized retail crime, and how the police department responds to reports of shoplifting and theft.
