Police and firefighters worked together to nab an arson suspect in southeast Shreveport. Just after 12:30 this morning, Shreveport firefighters were called to a fire at Orleans Square Apartments in the 8500 block of Jackson Square. They had the fire under control within minutes. While they were working on the fire, Shreveport police were called out to investigate a report of suspicious activity prior to the fire. They discovered that 25-year-old Bryan Cavey fit the description of the suspect, and they found him hiding behind a neighboring building. He was arrested and charged with simple arson, for setting fire to the apartment complex landscape, which caused more than $1,000 in damage. Fire investigators are working to determine whether Cavey is responsible for other arson fires in that area over the past month or two.
