He'll soon be making his final flight as commander of the 8th Air Force. Next Tuesday, May 24th, Maj. Gen. Floyd Carpenter's plane will land at 4 p.m. at Barksdale Air Force Base. The "Fini-Flight" is a long-standing practice of the U.S. Air Force. The time-honored tradition warrants a gala event, in which fire trucks join the crowd in welcoming the pilot back from his final flight. Brig. Gen. Stephen Wilson will replace Gen. Carpenter at 8th Air Force. He'll also serve as the Joint Functional Component Commander for global strike at U.S. Strategic Command.
