Now that you mention it (ahem) I think I am feeling a little ill.

Lately we have seen a little bit of a stomach bug being passed around, but also the constantly-changing weather has a way of bringing on a seriously annoying cough. Don't be sad. This is the perfect excuse for you to eat more chocolate.

A new study says chocolate is best for curing a cough.

It sounds too good to be true, but Professor Alyn Morice of the University of Hull says there is research to prove it. Professor Morice is the head of cardiovascular and respiratory studies. Morice gave an over-the-counter cough remedy and a cocoa-based remedy to 163 individuals with an ailing cough. Patients with the cocoa-based remedy showed more improvement than the others in just two days.

The best part is that this isn't the first study to show this.

Another study out of London showed similar results when patients took medicine with theobromine opposed to one with codeine. Theobromine is a bitter alkaloid found in cacao, which is used to make chocolate. Since this is what makes chocolate bitter, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the more bitter the chocolate, the better.

Is it weird that I almost want a sore throat now?
