It took nearly an hour for Shreveport firefighters to bring a Highland-area fire under control.

They arrived at a home in the 500 block of Vine Street to find heavy smoke and fire coming from two sides of the home and the roof. Three people living there got out safely, but a dog was unable to escape and died in the fire.

The home had a large amount of ammunition in it, which was igniting from the flames. The occupants say the fire started in some large bushes next to the side of the house and spread into the home. An investigator determined that's where the fire originated, but was unable to find what ignited the bushes.
