We will finally see 16 million pounds of explosives destroyed.

After waiting for nearly two years after the open air burn was shot down, the EPA will start destroying 16 million pounds of M-6 propellant that is now stored at Camp Minden. The state of the art burn chamber will destroy 99.9999 percent of the chemicals of concern according to initial tests conducted in May.

So far, more than a million pounds of the unstable explosive material has already been destroyed.

The container was specially constructed and the EPA says it includes one of the most advanced pollution-abatement systems in the world. While the burn is going on, it will be highly monitored to ensure public safety. destruction of the propellant is scheduled to take about 12 months.
