With the deadline for filing your federal tax returns less than a week off, the Internal Revenue Service says we're ahead of where we were at this time last year. The IRS says Louisiana is showing significant increases in self-prepared, electronically-filed returns -- as compared to the same period last year. Through last Friday, the IRS says more than 1-point-3 million Louisiana residents had filed their 2010 returns. And 88-percent of those have been filed electronically. Of those that were filed electronically, the IRS says the number of returns done by tax professionals is up more than five-percent over last year and the number prepared by the taxpayers, themselves, it up more than ten-percent. The deadline for filing your federal return -- or at least having it postmarked -- is this coming Monday, April 18th.
