A General now at the Pentagon will be the next commander of the mighty 8th Air Force.The Public Affairs Office says Brig. Gen. Steve Wilson will take over June 3 from Maj. Gen. Floyd Carpenter in a ceremony at Barksdale Air Force Base. Wilson is currently the U.S. Air Force Director for Joint Integration in the Directorate of Operational Capability Requirements. Gen. Carpenter will stay at Barksdale as Special Assistant to the Commander of Global Strike Command, which covers both land-based nuclear missiles and long-range nuclear bombers. It's run by Lt. Gen. Jim Kowalski, who guided the unit's startup in Washington, before it moved to Barksdale. He took over command in January.
