An Shreveport man has died while trying to escape his burning home. Shreveport firefighters were called out to a house in the 1900 block of Market Street just after 12:30 this morning. They were told a man was possibly trapped inside.

Additional equipment and manpower were called to assist with rescue and extinguishment. During the operations, the body of an older, white adult male was found near the side patio doors.

It took 40 firefighters nearly 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. No other injuries have been reported. Investigators are trying to determine the exact origin and cause of the fire, and the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office will investigate the homeowner's cause of death and confirm his identity.

This is Shreveport's first reported fire fatality of 2014.
