In an effort to combat impaired driving in our area, Louisiana State Police Troop G with the assistance of the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office plans to conduct a DWI checkpoint on Monday, June 18, 2012, from approximately 11:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. at an undisclosed location in Webster Parish.

Checkpoints are designed to remove impaired drivers from the roads before they can injure themselves or others. Additionally, checkpoints act as a deterrent and raise awareness to impaired driving. If people recognize the increased probability of checkpoints, they are less likely to drive impaired.

During the summer months many drivers, including those under the age of 21, operate motor vehicles under the influence of alcoholic beverages thereby creating a hazardous environment for themselves and others.

Remember that you have options. Regardless of the circumstances, commit to not operating an automobile while impaired. Designate a sober driver before your trip to any place where alcohol will be consumed. Drive sober or get pulled over.

To report impaired drivers, motorists are encouraged to dial *LSP (*577) from their cellular phone or to contact their local law enforcement agency.

Support for this checkpoint is provided by the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
