University of Louisiana System President Dr. Jim Henderson talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about the possibility of funding cuts to both the state's colleges and the TOPS scholarship program.

Henderson tells KEEL listeners that, in the face of possible reductions in funding, he's been speaking with legislators in Baton Rouge "to really give them information, to inform them of the impact of the decisions that they're making and they're very receptive to that."

The System President also addressed potential cuts to colleges of as much as $25 million: "Colleges in Louisiana already operate at the lowest resource based per student in the country, so we're already behind our competitors."

But, despite the possibility of having o make due with less, Henderson says, "I will be optimistic til the last day. That's the only way to operate in this environment. You have continue to work the problem."
