A man wanted in Florida on state criminal charges, including conspiracy to commit murder of two judges, has been captured in Bossier City.

Police say 46-year-old Joseph Schmitt of Panama was arrested at Horseshoe Casino Hotel after the U.S. Marshal's Office got information on his whereabouts.

Agents with the U.S. Marshal's Violent Offender Task Force, the FBI, Bossier City Police Department SWAT Team and Bossier City patrol officers took Schmitt into custody outside his hotel room with assistance from Horseshoe Casino security personnel.

Schmitt told officers he had explosive devices in his hotel room and his vehicle, but the Bossier City Fire Department Bomb Squad found no such devices. Schmitt was booked into the Bossier City Jail as a fugitive while Florida authorities make arrangements to extradite him.

The conspiracy to commit murder charges originate out of Bay County, Florida. Schmitt is also wanted out of St. Johns County, Florida, for aggravated stalking after an injunction.
