Dallas in the Running for 2016 GOP Convention

Dallas is in contention to host the 2016 Republican convention. Phoenix, Arizona and Columbus, Ohio have been eliminated as potential host cities.

Among the remaining contenders, Las Vegas is likely the strongest competitor to Dallas.  But if Dallas is chosen, there could be an added windfall for the Shreveport-Bossier City area, thanks to the area's hotels and casinos providing a nearby diversion for visiting delegates and party officials.

In 2012, the GOP Convention was held in Tampa, Florida.
