Shreveport police are asking residents to remember some simple measures that can help reduce crime in our community. Police always stress that there are three key elements that must be in place for any crime to occur: desire, ability and opportunity. While it can be difficult to control desire and ability -- we can all take steps to reduce our exposure to the would-be criminal's opportunity. Here are a few tips...remove all valuables -- including garage door openers -- from your vehicle when you park it for the night. Always lock your vehicle doors and roll up the windows. Police say at least half of the auto burglaries they investigate involve unlocked cars. Consider installing a motion detector or leave an outside light burning at night. And if you see anything suspicious in your neighborhood, don't hesitate to call the Shreveport Police Department.
