Louisiana's Department of Corrections Secretary Jimmy LeBlanc talks with 101.7 / 710 KEEL's Robert J Wright and Erin McCarty about his Shreveport meeting with local law enforcement officials and the status of the state's Justice Reinvestment Act.

LeBlanc tells KEEL listeners that the plan, which included early release for more than 1,400 prisoners and diversion programs for numerous first time or non-violent offenders is meeting its goals of reducing number of incarcerated and saving the state millions of dollars. "From the standpoint of overall success," said the Secretary, "The reinvestment phase of this - and meeting with the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget...and getting unanimous approval to move the money, which is $8.2 million, to be reinvested in our communities...is success."
